The RTB encourages landlords and tenants to discuss problems early and keep lines of communication open. It is useful to follow up any discussion with a letter on what was said or agreed. If the problem cannot be resolved, the RTB offer dispute resolution services.
In 2016, the most common issues in dispute were rent arrears / rent arrears and over holding which represented 31% of all cases and invalid notice of termination representing 23% of all cases.
