The purpose of the research project is to provide up-to-date and robust information on the landlords, tenants and letting agents in the rental sector. The research project is part of a strategic priority for the RTB to use data and research to promote a better understanding of the rental sector, monitor trends, assess their impact and influence policy and outcomes.
The first phase of the project was conducted in 2019/2020. The second phase of the project began in April 2022 and publication occured in December 2023. The 2022 research followed the same methodology as that of 2019/2020 to allow for robust comparability of results.
This research includes a nationnaly representative telephone survey of 250 medium landlords owning 3-20 properties and 10 in-depth telephone interviews with medium landlords owning 21-99 properties. A semi-strctured approach was considered more appropriate for the larger medium landlords who owned more properties.
