What is a Cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that may be stored on your computer or mobile device that contains data related to a website you visit. It may allow a website “remember” your actions or preferences over a period of time, or it may contain data related to the function or delivery of the site.

The first time you visit www.rtb.ie you will be prompted to accept or refuse cookies. Your cookie preferences will be retained for 12 months, after which you will be asked to re-consent. Further information can be found below.

How do we use Cookies?

Functional Cookies: These cookies enable the website to provide enhanced functionality and personalisation. They may be set by us or by third party providers whose services we have added to our pages. If you do not allow these cookies, then some or all of these services may not function properly.

Performance Cookies: This information helps us monitor traffic on our Website, so that we can manage the Website's capacity and efficiency. It also helps us to understand which parts of this Website are most popular, and generally to assess user behaviour and characteristics in order to measure interest in and use of the various areas of the Website. This type of non-personal information and data is collected through the standard operation of our internet servers and logs as well as “cookies”.

Strictly Necessary Cookies: These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in or filling in forms. You can set your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, but some parts of the site will not then work. These cookies do not store any personally identifiable information. These cookies are used for functionality that is strictly necessary for services that are explicitly requested by the user for their session as per Regulation 5(5), SI 336 of 2011 (the ePrivacy Regulations).

Managing Cookies

You can change your cookie preferences at any time by navigating to the ‘Cookie Settings’, always found at the bottom of the RTB website. You can then adjust the available sliders to ‘On’ or ‘Off’, then clicking ‘Save and close’. You may need to refresh your page for your settings to take effect.

One simple way to prevent the use of cookies is to activate the facility which is available in most web browsers that enables you to deny or accept cookies. However, you should realise that some cookies may be necessary in order to provide you with certain features such as the customised delivery of certain information.

To find information relating to browser controls, visit the browser developer's website or your browser settings.

Security

The RTB takes its security responsibilities in protecting your personal data seriously and employs the most appropriate physical and technical measures, including staff training and awareness to ensure as far as possible that adequate protection is provided.

The RTB uses industry standard methods of encryption to ensure confidentiality of all data transferred over the internet between the user’s computer and the RTB’s ICT systems. You should note that while we take reasonable precautions to safeguard information transmitted between the Website and users of the Website, we may be unable to prevent unauthorised access to such information by third parties or inadvertent disclosures of such information during transmission. This caveat applies to all websites that a user visits and not just the RTB. We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, as do all the well-known internet shopping sites, to encrypt and safeguard sensitive information transmitted (e.g PPSN, credit card details). Users acknowledge this risk when communicating with the Website. As you access relevant areas on this site, you will see the padlock in your browser’s security display indicating the transfer of all data between your browser and our site has been encrypted.

Hotjar script is used on the RTB's website, Hotjar cookies are responsible for displaying the correct content to visitors without personally identifying anyone.
